THE ALCAZABA OF MÁLAGA

The Alcazaba of Malaga is one of the most important historical monuments in the city. It was built between the year 1057 and 1063, and is in fact the best preserved fortress in Spain. Located next to the Alcazaba entrance you'll find the ruins of Teatro Romano, a Roman theater dating back to the 1st century BC, being the oldest monument in the city.

The Alcazaba is a symbolic landmark in Málaga, and truly an impressive monument. Walk in and around the fortress, and on top of the castle walls, while enjoying panoramic views of the city. The Alcazaba is the no.1 tourist attraction in Málaga, and should be on your bucket list while visiting Costa del Sol. There are a variety of selections for guided tours in Málaga, and if you should choose only one, The Alcazaba would be a good choice.
 

CASTILLO DE GIBRALFARO

"The best scenic views of Málaga"

Castillo de Gibralfaro, on top of the Gibralfaro hill, was built in the 1300's to protect Alcazaba. Massive fortress ramparts, towers and a long, walled path with stunning views of several parts of the city.

We recommend walking to the top. On the way up you'll find Málaga's most popular viewpoint, Mirador de Gibralfaro. with an amazing view of the harbor area and the bullfighter arena.

NOTE: Sundays there's a free admission after 2 pm. Although, with prices between € 2 - € 2.50, it's never expensive. A combination ticket to both Castillo de Gibralfaro and Alcazaba costs approximately € 3.50.

Museo Picasso Málaga

 

Experience the life and art of Pablo Picasso in his native hometown. The Picasso Museum in Málaga was established to fulfill the artist's desire for his works to be exhibited in the city where he was born in 1881. In this museum you can experience more than 200 works of art by Picasso.

NOTE: Sundays there's a free entry the last two hours of the opening hours (closes at 6pm or 8pm, depending on the season).

Catedral de Málaga

 

Catedral de Málaga is the most important and largest church in the city. An impressive cathedral built between 1528 and 1782. This building with its elaborate embellishments is a fantastic sight, definitely worth a visit.

Inside the cathedral there's a museum as well. It's possible to join a guided tour that will take you all the way up to the roof of the cathedral.

Centre Pompidou Málaga

 

The original Pompidou Museum is located in Paris, and opened its doors for the first time in 1977. Center Pompidou in Málaga is the first of its kind outside of France, confirming the city as one of the European Capitals of culture. Known for its contemporary art, this Art Museum is located inside a huge glass cube in Muelle Uno, close to the harbor. It's actually difficult not to notice this spectacular and colorful architecture.

NOTE: Sundays there's a free admission after 4pm.

Santuario de la Virgen

de la Victoria

Another famous church in Málaga, and this one was declared a monument in 1996. It may not look that extravagant from the outside, but the interior will blow your mind. Large paintings, impressive decorations and sculptures, as well as a magnificent altar. From time to time on Tripadvisor, this church is actually the no.1 building to visit in Málaga.

You'll soon enough notice that the now-famous hop-on hop-off bus is available in Málaga. Perfect starting point for exploring Málaga's main attractions. City Sightseeing boat tour

 

City Sightseeing Málaga also offers a boat trip of about one hour. The departure point is from the Paseo del Muelle Uno at 12:00, 13:30, 15:30 and 17:00 every day. Prices from €12.

If you're on the hop-on hop-off bus, the marina is located at stop number 6.

Sit back and relax on deck, while enjoying both the sun and the city of Málaga from the seaside.

Parque de Málaga

 

Close to the city center, opposite from the Paseo del Muelle Uno, you'll find this lovely park. It is actually a botanical garden, with an impressive collection of colorful flowers, palm trees and other plants. A green oasis where you can relax, while it suddenly feels like the busy streets are far away. On a very hot summers day it might be good, or even necessary, with a relaxing break in the shade. What better place than on a bench under a palm tree?

Caminito del Rey

Caminito del Rey passes through the canyon Desfiladero de los Gaitanes in southern Spain, and is more than 100 years old. It was previously known as the world's most dangerous hiking trail. After restoration in 2015 it has become a safe trail of 7.7 km, and is now referred to as an airy hiking experience you've never experienced before.
